Hi,

Just as a sanity check any thoughts?

My bike was stolen out of my garage earlier this year, so i am claiming through home insurance, which is a new for old policy.

I had a GT tequesta of about 15 years age, minor upgrades such as v-brake on rear and good tyres and wheels as and when the old ones wore out.

Halfords are being used as some sort of go-between and have offered a carrera vulcan (£259) as being of equal spec. Is that right? To me a mid-range GT would cost at least twice that. What can I do? Hold out for a GT? Keep batting it back and asking for more?

Rob.

Hi Rob

Sorry to hijack your thread, but can i ask how long it took for Halfords to contact you reference a replacment bike? Only reason for asking is last month i had my bike nicked and will be claiming on my home insurance. Halfords have had my details for 2 weeks now and i have had no corrospondance whatsoever. I had my Specialized Hardrock nicked and will be interested to see what they offer me.

I just wish that they would get in touch.

Cheers

I can’t comment on the timing but I would hold out for a Specialized from them - they (eventually) managed to get me a Specialised road bike in the summer (my employer chose them as a supplier for their bike 2 work scheme).

They source the bikes from a shop in Berkshire as the bike companies won’t deal with them!

A word of warning, though, check thoroughly before riding. I rode mine up & down the street a couple of times before putting it on the workstand & fettling for 30 mins. It helps if the brake blocks align with the rims, I think!
