...I appear to have accidentally got myself in an adventure race team for next weekend, so could do with brushing up on mtb skills.

Well, I went out, climbed up Keighley gate to the cross, across west to the big rock near the trees, back to cross, up to masts over trig point, 12 apostles, down boardwalk, west along the edge past badger stone, back to keighley gate and down.
Didn’t fall off, but wussed out a few times.

I find it tricky to really go for the difficult step ups with my feet in the SPDs, and the downs, well, I’m a wuss.

But i needed to practice my carrying style, so that’s good, right?

Anyway, I survived but I could still do with some advice and a yardstick as to whether I’m cutting the mustard.

FYI, what I’m panic training for is: http://www.aceraces.com/events/2007/2day/info.html

Eek!

I’m planning a whiz about on the bike sometime over the next few days (tue, wed, thur) during the daytime or one night...and as it happens I’m a mountain bike leader so could give you some riding tips for the tricky bits if you like! Let me know if you’re interested with your phone no.

Did some adventure racing a while back (Adrenalin Rush, Hi-Tecs) and met the guy who was doing the ace series a few times. Looks a good format, as an ex-orienteer you’ll appreciate the imporance of getting your nav right!
