Mountain Bike Forums

I am currently doing a design technology project and require user feedback on different types of brakes. In particular V-brakes and Disc brakes. I would prefer someone who has used both for a decent period of time and i would like opinions and views on the brakes and also advantages and disadvantages that you have found while using the brakes.

Side-pull/V Brakes etc. Advantages: Light, cheap, dead easy to maintain, perfectly fine on road bikes. Disadvantages: Stopping power is less than a disc brake. Not so good on mountain bikes as wheel rims wear out and they are not powerful enough for serious mountain mountainbiking or in wet/muddy conditions.

Disc brakes. Advantages: Decent ones have fantastic stopping power, don’t wear out wheel rims.
Disadvantages: Expensive, heavy compared to side-pulls, difficult to maintain.

But really if you are doing on-line research you should be setting up an on-line questionaire etc.
