Myself and about 10 like minded guys ride and maintain a fairly small area of trails, mostly freeride and dirt jump style which is on National Trust land. The trails are also used by probably as many as 100 other riders on a more casual basis. We have a good rapore with the local NT staff, however they have recently told us that if we start a club, obtain Public liability insurance and charge other riders a small daily fee to ride (to be covered by the insurance) they will make our trails an official MTB area, fence it off and put up signs accordingly (Good Times). They have also told us that if we don’t do this then the trails will most likely be destroyed within the year (Bad Times!)

I was after advise from anyone who may have gone through this process or with experience/knowledge of it as none of us know where to start. I have spent several hours trailing the web for information and so far have drawn a blank. Any advise would be hugely appreciated.

Have you tried contacting the IMBA UK(International Mountainbike Association - UK branch), they may be able to help; http://www.imba.org.uk/

If your trial is in the Yorkshire region, try also Singletraction (http://www.singletraction.org.uk/index.php)- a group of trial building Yorkshire lads who have formed a club; you may be able to discuss some kind of affiliation.

Good luck & let us know how you get on.
