Myself and about 10 like minded guys ride and maintain a fairly small area of trails, mostly freeride and dirt jump style which is on National Trust land. The trails are also used by probably as many as 100 other riders on a more casual basis. We have a good rapore with the local NT staff, however they have recently told us that if we start a club, obtain Public liability insurance and charge other riders a small daily fee to ride (to be covered by the insurance) they will make our trails an official MTB area, fence it off and put up signs accordingly (Good Times). They have also told us that if we don’t do this then the trails will most likely be destroyed within the year (Bad Times!)

I was after advise from anyone who may have gone through this process or with experience/knowledge of it as none of us know where to start. I have spent several hours trailing the web for information and so far have drawn a blank. Any advise would be hugely appreciated.

Well, did this today (posting from B&B in Ambleside) - onoly fell off once
Suitably taxing on a techical level, fitness wise, not too much trouble. Could have gome round again, not sure my nerves were up to it though.

Didn;t like the boardwalk sections. Fell off on one - it was a 6” step up onto it, and it was only 60cm wide - wobbled, righted and slipped the front wheel off in the process, emded up upside down in the grass. Luckily grass at this point - to many sharp pointy rocks up there for my liking.

Anyway. Was great fun. wobbly at start, foundd the hairpins on rough stuff tricky - but applied motorcycle thinking - power on, with feathered braking to ‘tighten’ bike up at low speed - is this right then?

Ho hum. Felt better for doing it. Was fitter than a lot of people out, just slower on the finicky stuff.

Rode the whole of the new Red Route today!
Excellent in places, too much hardcore in other places!
All in all nearly up to Scottish Trail standards, with some bedding in still to be done in the latter stages of the circuit it seemed that some sections had only just been completed in time for the official opening on Tuesday!
I measured it at 25 miles and rode it feeling very tired in 2hrs 12mins.
Go and give a go! You won’t be disapointed…
